What to expect from CTC in 2026!
Richard Mitchell
As we look back on an incredibly busy and successful 2025, our team has been busy looking ahead to what promises to be an exciting 2026 with a host of invaluable outputs that we believe will enrich the industry.
In June, we celebrated reaching the significant milestone of reaching more than 1,000 members (across more than 90 counties), since we re-formed the organisation in late-2017.
Our focus today remains the same as it was eight years ago, to provide easy-to-access learning opportunities in various different formats to help support the cinema industry. Our team has always maintained that sharing knowledge and best practices supports the sector in driving better outcomes for movie-goers which in turn plays a part in growing both box office revenue and admissions.
To that end, the team has been steadfast in gather information about what our members want and need to help them succeed.
Over the past 18 months, there’s been increasing clamour regarding audio levels in cinemas and why this is becoming something of an issue of late. We first raised this issue at the Norwegian Cinema Conference in 2024 and have been gathering information during 2025. Next year the team will further investigate this subject through a range of in field testing and seek to raise awareness of the issue across the industry.
As laser projection reaches something of a tipping point, the issue of Metamerism hasn’t gone away, in fact it’s only likely to become more of a problem. Our work this year with colleagues at IMIS points to the need to focus beyond exhibition and look at raising awareness with post production and we intend to make this a significant focus in 2026.
It is also clear that exhibitors are seeking to streamline their operations and in some territories, there is a renewed focus on ticketing systems and digital signage and how the integration of these can help drive efficiencies. Our team are working on providing guidance on the systems available, how these connect to operational systems and the benefits of these.
This year we reinstated our training courses with a hugely successful event held at the Cinema In the Power Station in London. In the early Spring we’re planning to run another course in the North of England before we turn our attention to delivering these in local markets.
On top of this, you can expect another series of “Ten Things You Need To Know” - our landmark short audio series, the continuation of our brilliant “In The Pub” Podcast, video content, local market support with partner organisations and much more.
2026 promises to be an exciting year, you can guarantee CTC will be working tirelessly to support the industry.

The Future of Movie Going
Martin Berg - Mojo Works - an innovation studio for the entertainment industry
The future of moviegoing isn't about recovery.
It's about accepting a permanent shift that demands reconfiguration:
After two decades in the cinema industry, stepping away gave me perspective on what's really happening:
Moviegoing has lost its momentum as a default leisure activity.
This isn't temporary – it's a fundamental transformation that requires a new approach.
The cinema industry can still thrive – I really want it to (even so much that I'm launching my own contribution very soon).
But, we have to recalibrate.
What's driving this shift:
- The economics of attention are unforgiving – marketing costs for mid-tier films often exceed their revenue potential
- Premium experiences are appealing but push moviegoing further into "special occasion" territory
- Digital natives form social connections online, changing the value proposition of cinema as a social experience
- Theatre attendance remains significantly lower than pre-pandemic levels five years later
Every year since the pandemic was supposed to be the comeback year.
It's time to move beyond that narrative.
The cinema industry will survive – even thrive, but only through adaptation, not mere recovery.
We need to chart a path forward independently from the patterns of history.

Welcome to the Community Blog
Richard Mitchell
Our vision for CTC has always been one of an organic, thriving and growing community, one where its members lift each other up through knowledge-sharing. A collaborative environment where we all learn together so that we create better outcomes not just for the industry but better movie-going experiences for cinema lovers around the world. So in reviewing not just our extensive body of work but also our incredible growth which has seen CTC become the largest cinema technology trade organisation over the past seven and a half years with members in nearly ninety countries, the CTC leadership team identified the need to enhance membership engagement so that it is less one-directional. Whilst traditionally trade bodies have been the voice and its members are the ears, we want our community to be one where yes CTC is a voice (and perhaps the loudest), but a community full of voices – your voices.
Designed for our members, this new blog is designed to share more structured and longer form content. This blog aims to offers content from members and industry experts, including short articles, case studies, and thought leadership pieces.
Curated by the CT Magazine editorial team, this new platform not only allows members to share their thoughts and insights with the community but helps to keep members and indeed non-members informed about the latest developments within the industry. Our aim is for the blog to be complementary to the magazine so where interesting topics arise in the blog, we’ll aim to expand these out and publish them in to full length features in CT Magazine.
So please feel free to submit your articles using the link below.
